A fabricated quote attributed to Luka Dončić recently caused a stir on social media, falsely suggesting the Lakers star felt his team was superior following LeBron James' exit. Dan Woike, a reporter for The Athletic, swiftly debunked the claim, confirming Dončić never made such a statement.

The manufactured quote purported that Dončić praised James while also asserting the restructured Lakers had better balance and a greater chance to compete. Woike urged users to report accounts spreading such misinformation.

In reality, Dončić's genuine response to James' trade to the Philadelphia 76ers was warm and concise. He shared a photo on Instagram of him and James embracing, accompanied by the caption, "An honor to play with and learn from you @kingjames."

This aligns with Dončić's past sentiments, who described playing with James as a "dream come true" upon joining the Lakers in February 2025. James also welcomed Dončić, considering him his favorite NBA player and advocating for him to be introduced last in the Lakers' lineup.
