Louisville Shocks UNC in Overtime Thriller

No. 20 Louisville women's basketball secured a pivotal top-25 victory on Sunday, overcoming No. 11 North Carolina in overtime with a 76-66 score. This win marked Louisville's first against a ranked opponent this season and ended UNC's undefeated home record. The Cardinals' defense proved stifling, holding the Tar Heels to their worst shooting performance since November, a mere 38% from the field.

Despite Louisville building early leads, North Carolina fought back, even taking a lead late in the fourth quarter. The game was tied at 66-all, forcing an extra period where Louisville's bench stepped up, scoring eight of the team's ten overtime points. Key offensive contributions also came from starters Laura Ziegler, Taj Roberts, and Elif Istanbulluolu, who all reached double-digit scoring.

Louisville will now prepare for another top-20 matchup against No. 17 Tennessee, with a tune-up game against Eastern Kentucky scheduled before then. The Cardinals' ability to maintain composure and execute in crucial moments, especially during overtime, was a deciding factor in their hard-fought win.
