CCTV Footage Saves Champion Long Jumper from Doping Ban
27 Nov, 2025
Summary
- Long jumper cleared of doping due to passive inhalation of medication.
- Hospital CCTV footage confirmed an indirect exposure to terbutaline.
- World champion's name was cleared after an extensive investigation.

Chinese world champion long jumper Wang Jianan has been cleared of anti-doping rule violations following an investigation into an adverse finding in late 2024. The substance in question, terbutaline, is often used to treat asthma. Investigations by the China Anti-Doping Agency (CHINADA), corroborated by CCTV footage and hospital records, revealed Wang had passively inhaled the drug particles while his family member underwent nebulization treatment.
This crucial evidence, provided to the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), established a timeline and explained the positive test without fault or negligence on Wang's part. The AIU, after seeking independent scientific opinion, concluded that the passive transfer of terbutaline could not be excluded. This finding allowed for the dismissal of potential sanctions against the 29-year-old athlete.
Wang, a decorated long jumper with a World Championships gold medal from 2022, faced scrutiny after the out-of-competition test. However, the thorough investigation, supported by visual evidence from a local hospital, has now fully exonerated him, ensuring his competitive career remains unaffected by this doping scare.
