Six devoted runners, known as the 'Ever Presents', have completed every London Marathon since the event's launch in 1981. This remarkable group has now finished all 46 races, showcasing incredible loyalty and perseverance. Their combined age is 465, with members ranging from 67 to 84 years old.
The 'Ever Presents' club, formed in 1996, originally had 42 members, but health and injuries have reduced the number to just six dedicated individuals. This year, one member, David Walker, will complete the marathon virtually from his hometown of Chesham, Bucks, due to a suspected fractured rib, utilizing the London Marathon app for an official time and medal.
Chris Finill, the youngest of the group at 67, recounted an instance where he completed a marathon with a broken arm. The runners acknowledge the increasing difficulty with age, with participation becoming more about survival and personal achievement than competition. They draw inspiration from the continuous collection of medals, symbolizing their enduring commitment.
Their dedication is supported by family members, many of whom have also participated or are consistent cheerleaders. The group has developed strong friendships over the decades, treasuring their medals and other mementes. Hugh Brasher, CEO of London Marathon Events, lauded the 'Ever Presents' as embodying the spirit of the marathon's founders.
