Slot: Premier League Set Pieces Are Key to Title
13 Feb
Summary
- Liverpool struggles with set-piece balance, ranking among the worst in the Premier League.
- Manager Arne Slot emphasizes set pieces as crucial for winning the league title.
- The team's set-piece balance has improved slightly but remains significantly negative.
Arne Slot, manager of Liverpool, has identified the team's negative set-piece balance as a significant impediment to their Premier League title challenge. As of 2026-02-13T12:56:54+00:00, Liverpool ranks jointly last in the league for set-piece balance, a measure of goals scored versus conceded from dead-ball situations. Slot stressed that this has become even more crucial this season, stating it's "impossible to win the league" without a substantially positive balance.
The team's set-piece balance has seen a marginal improvement, moving from -9 to -6 due to recent headers and a free-kick, yet this still places them alongside West Ham United. This contrasts sharply with their superior performance in the Champions League, where they ranked highly. Slot believes this disparity significantly impacts their league form, suggesting that teams need a strong positive balance, potentially around +10, to genuinely contend for the title.
