31 May
Summary
- Saudi PIF funding for LIV Golf ceases at the end of the 2026 season.
- Player cited lack of major and Ryder Cup opportunities as reasons for leaving.
- Golfer aims to become the world's best player despite LIV Golf's struggles.

LIV Golf's future is in jeopardy as Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) plans to cease funding after the 2026 season. Launched in June 2022, LIV Golf aimed to rival the PGA Tour, signing prominent players like Phil Mickelson and Jon Rahm. However, the league has faltered while the PGA Tour has strengthened.
Many players, including Brooks Koepka and Patrick Reed, have recently departed LIV. Eugenio Chacarra, who left in 2024, shared his reasons with Today's Golfer, stating that winning on LIV did not significantly alter his career prospects, particularly regarding major championships and Ryder Cup appearances, which led to a loss of motivation.
Chacarra, a 26-year-old Spaniard, expressed ambitious goals, aiming to become the best golfer globally. He believes he needs to improve his mental game and wedge play, noting his current wedge performance is not up to par and requires better spin control. He is actively working on these aspects to reach his professional aspirations.
