Joseph Eyes 2026 Return: No PUP List for Lions Safety

Detroit Lions safety Kerby Joseph has provided an encouraging update on his injury status for the upcoming 2026 NFL season. Responding to speculation about players potentially starting on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list, Joseph confidently stated his expectation to avoid it.

Joseph's 2025 season was significantly hampered by a chronic knee injury, limiting him to just six games played. He missed the final 11 games of that season, raising concerns about his readiness for 2026.

Despite the injury setbacks, Joseph remains a pivotal figure in the Lions' secondary. When healthy, he forms one half of a formidable safety duo. His career statistics include 20 interceptions and 35 pass deflections in 52 games. Notably, Joseph led the entire NFL with nine interceptions during the 2025 season.

While his clearance for training camp or Week 1 of the 2026 season is not guaranteed, Joseph's optimistic outlook is a positive sign for the Lions' defense. His expectation of returning to play this season suggests a strong recovery from his knee issue.
