4 May
Summary
- Pumas UNAM faces Club America in a crucial Liga MX playoff first leg.
- Club America has struggled this season, qualifying in eighth place.
- Pumas boast Liga MX's highest-scoring attack, posing a challenge for America's defense.
The Liga MX Clausura playoffs commenced this past Saturday, featuring a significant first-leg encounter between Pumas UNAM and Club America. Pumas, who finished the regular season in first place, are set to face Club America, who narrowly secured the eighth position.
Despite recent difficulties, including a season-ending injury to goalkeeper Luis Malagon and struggles in scoring, Club America relies on a strong defense. However, they will be tested by Pumas' potent attack, bolstered by midfielders like Adalberto Carrasquilla and Pedo Vite, alongside Juninho's offensive contributions. Henry Martin's inconsistent availability for America has further strained their attacking options.
With pressure mounting on coach Andre Jardine to secure a trophy, following a period without one since their three-peat from 2023-2025, Club America must navigate past Pumas. Pumas, meanwhile, have not won a regular season title since the 2010-11 season, indicating their determination not to be underestimated.
