Lazio's Midfield Chase: Gattuso vs. Fabiani Showdown

Lazio's strategic planning for the upcoming season has highlighted a key area of focus: acquiring a new attacking midfielder. Head coach Gennaro Gattuso is anticipated to implement a 4-2-3-1 formation, necessitating a specialist for the No.10 role.

Gattuso has reportedly set his sights on Luka Stojkovic, a 22-year-old Croatian player from Dinamo Zagreb. Stojkovic showcased impressive form, contributing 13 goals and 12 assists in 41 matches last season, helping his team secure a domestic double. Gattuso's familiarity with Croatian football stems from his previous coaching stint at Hajduk Split.

Meanwhile, sporting director Angelo Fabiani appears to be pursuing a different target. An agreement is reportedly in place with the representatives of Jonathan Asp Jensen, a 20-year-old Danish midfielder currently owned by Bayern Munich. Jensen is ready to join Lazio after a successful loan spell at Grasshoppers. However, finalizing this transfer requires reaching a deal with Bayern Munich, with negotiations ongoing regarding a potential sell-on fee.

The need for a natural attacking midfielder became apparent following Luis Alberto's departure in the summer of 2024. While players like Boulaye Dia, Tijjani Noslin, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru have shown versatility, the club views the acquisition of a dedicated attacking midfielder as a priority.
