Virat Kohli marked his return to India's ODI squad by setting a new record against the West Indies in the first match of the series. He has now appeared in 44 ODIs against the Caribbean team, surpassing Mohammad Azharuddin's previous record of 43 appearances.
Kohli is also on the verge of another major individual achievement. With 14,941 runs to his name before the match, he requires only 59 more runs to become the second male cricketer to score 15,000 runs in ODIs. This landmark has only been achieved by Sachin Tendulkar.
Additionally, Kohli could achieve a unique century record in this series. He has already scored nine ODI centuries against the West Indies, and scoring one more would make him the first batter to reach double digits in centuries against this opponent.
The 1st ODI also saw the debut of Naman Dhir for India, with Shubman Gill captaining the side. This three-match series forms part of India's preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
