In August 2025, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Rinku Singh shared a heartwarming story about the support he received from his team owner, Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan, after missing out on selection for India's T20 World Cup 2024 squad.
Rinku, who had an impressive 2023 IPL season, was included in the reserves for the World Cup but not the main squad. As he had to travel to Mumbai for visa formalities, Shah Rukh Khan offered to have Rinku join him on the journey. Though initially hesitant, Rinku couldn't refuse when the Bollywood star himself asked him to travel together.
During the two-hour flight, Shah Rukh Khan provided Rinku with encouragement and motivation, sensing that the young player's confidence was low after the World Cup disappointment. The actor explained things to Rinku, gave him support, and actively worked to boost his morale.
Rinku described the experience as "really, really amazing" and said "so many beautiful things happened" during that journey with Shah Rukh Khan. The mentorship and guidance from the KKR owner proved invaluable for the 27-year-old cricketer, who went on to have a standout 2024 IPL season and was retained by the franchise for a whopping ₹13 crore in 2025.
