Gujarat HC Bars More from BCA Elections
16 Mar
Summary
- Kiran More disqualified from Baroda Cricket Association elections.
- Gujarat High Court cited Supreme Court ruling on tenure limits.
- Election officer's decision to accept nominations was set aside.

The Gujarat High Court has disqualified former Indian cricketer Kiran More and three associates from participating in the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) elections. This decision, delivered on Monday, overturns the election officer's prior acceptance of their nomination papers for various office-bearer positions.
The disqualification is based on a Supreme Court ruling mandating cooling-off periods and limiting cumulative tenure in cricket administration. The court found that the respondents exceeded these limits, making them ineligible to contest.
Consequently, the nomination forms for More, Amul Jikar, Anant Indulkar, and Amar Petiwale have been invalidated. The election officer is now directed to continue the election process and announce results in adherence to the court's order.
The court granted the disqualified candidates two weeks to file an appeal against the ruling. Earlier, interim protection had been provided, allowing voting to proceed on February 15, but results were to be withheld pending further orders.
The petitioners, citing a September 14, 2022, Supreme Court judgment, argued that individuals completing nine years in a state cricket association face disqualification. They also highlighted the mandatory three-year cooling-off period after two consecutive terms.
