Summary
- Kenya thrashes Seychelles 5-0 in World Cup qualifier
- Kenya's World Cup hopes remain slim despite the win
- Kenya trails Ivory Coast and Gabon in the group standings

On Tuesday, the Kenyan national team, under the guidance of head coach Benni McCarthy, delivered a dominant performance in their FIFA World Cup Qualifier match against Seychelles. The Harambee Stars cruised to a resounding 5-0 victory, showcasing their attacking prowess.
The match started with Ryan Ogam breaking the deadlock just seven minutes into the game. Collins Sichenje then doubled the lead in the 35th minute, before young midfielder Duke Abuya tripled the goal tally three minutes later. Just before the half-time whistle, Michael Olunga converted from the penalty spot to ensure a comfortable four-goal cushion for Kenya.
In the second half, Olunga added his second goal of the game to complete the rout and seal the victory for the Kenyan side. However, despite the commanding win, Kenya's hopes of securing a spot in the 2026 World Cup remain slim. The team currently sits in fourth place in their group, trailing table-toppers Ivory Coast and second-placed Gabon.
Kenya will wrap up their qualifying campaign next month with a visit to Burundi, followed by a home match against Ivory Coast. The Harambee Stars will need to produce more impressive performances like the one against Seychelles if they are to have any chance of making it to the global showpiece.
