Summary
- Laila Edwards secured Olympic gold with family support.
- Kelce brothers donated $10,000 to help family attend.
- Edwards is the first Black female Olympic hockey player for the US.

Laila Edwards, a Team USA hockey superstar, celebrated Olympic gold on Thursday, with her family present in the stands thanks to the generosity of Travis and Jason Kelce. The US team secured a dramatic 2-1 overtime victory against Canada, with Edwards contributing an assist on one of the goals.
Edwards, 21, made history as the first Black female hockey player to represent the United States in the Olympics. Her family's attendance was facilitated by an outpouring of donations to a GoFundMe page, with the Kelce brothers, both from Cleveland Heights, Ohio, making the largest contribution of $10,000.
The fundraiser successfully enabled ten family members, including her 91-year-old grandmother, and four friends to travel to Milan Cortina. Edwards emphasized the profound significance of her family's presence, stating they were instrumental in her journey to making the team and achieving her Olympic dream.
The family had initially aimed to raise $50,000, but the campaign has since surpassed $61,815. The Kelce brothers' support stems from their admiration of Edwards since 2023, when she became the first Black player on the US senior women's national team, even featuring her on their podcast, 'New Heights.'
