AZ Star Smit Eyes Barcelona Move After Cup Win

Kees Smit, a 20-year-old player for AZ Alkmaar, is emerging as a significant talent in European football, with top clubs showing keen interest in his services. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona are reportedly contenders to sign the young Dutch player at the end of the current season.

Rafael Van der Vaart, a former Real Madrid player, believes Smit's progression points towards a future at the Spanish giants or another elite club. Meanwhile, the historical connection between Dutch football and Barcelona, dating back to Johan Cruyff, is also being highlighted.

Smit himself has humorously alluded to a potential move to Barcelona, especially as his team, AZ Alkmaar, plans to celebrate their recent Dutch Cup victory in the Catalan capital. He expressed willingness to negotiate a transfer, stating, "If they ask me to negotiate, I am totally willing to do so."

This burgeoning talent is valued at approximately 50 million euros, a sum that might stretch Barcelona's current financial capabilities. However, signals from Smit's camp suggest ongoing discussions. Ronald Koeman has described Smit as a player suited for Barcelona, likening him to a blend of Frenkie de Jong and Pedri.
