Karnataka has reaffirmed its dominance in Indian swimming, with a remarkable 18 athletes chosen for the 40-member national squad. These swimmers will compete in the 12th Asian Age Group Championships in Bangkok, scheduled from July 17 to July 25.
The contingent includes Paris Olympian Dhinidhi Desinghu, who is set to lead India's charge in the Group B (15-16 years) category. Desinghu will participate in 100m, 200m, and 400m freestyle races, along with three relay events.
Swimmers like Dharshan S will also feature prominently, competing in multiple freestyle distances and relays. This overwhelming presence from Karnataka underscores the state's consistent success and its role in producing international talent.
Dhinidhi attributes this strong showing to Karnataka's exceptional aquatics infrastructure and the presence of renowned coaches like Nihar Ameen, stating that such facilities are unparalleled elsewhere in India. Despite a recent dip in personal bests at the Senior Nationals, Dhinidhi expressed confidence in her training and the team's potential for strong results.
