Jordan Burroughs, the 2012 London Olympics gold medalist and six-time world champion, has returned to competitive wrestling. Initially planning to retire after the 2024 world championships, Burroughs felt a renewed desire to compete and accepted an offer from the newly launched Real American Freestyle (RAF) promotion.
Burroughs' first match back is in Cleveland on Saturday, with another scheduled for Moscow on September 5th against former world champion Magomed Kurbanaliev. He acknowledges that aiming for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics at age 40 presents immense challenges but remains determined to pursue the dream.
RAF, founded to provide wrestlers with earning opportunities, has already hosted an international debut event in Tbilisi, where Kyle Snyder defeated Abdulrashid Sadulaev. The promotion is expanding globally with planned events in India, the Middle East, Uzbekistan, Mongolia, and Japan, aiming to elevate wrestling's professional status worldwide.
