Summary
- Jontay Porter, banned for life, joins the Seattle Superhawks.
- He pleaded guilty to felony wire fraud charges in July 2025.
- Porter is awaiting sentencing, expected to serve 3-4 years.

Jontay Porter, banned from the NBA for life in 2024 due to gambling activities, is set to play in the newly reformed United States Basketball League. The Seattle Superhawks announced his signing on Wednesday, with their season scheduled to commence on March 7.
Porter pleaded guilty to a felony charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in federal court in Brooklyn in July 2025. Prosecutors accuse him of manipulating his performance in two games with the Toronto Raptors during the 2023-24 season and colluding with gamblers for prop bets.
An NBA investigation also revealed Porter personally bet on 13 NBA games he did not play in during 2024, winning $22,000. Federal prosecutors have broadened their investigation, which initially focused on Porter, leading to indictments against dozens of individuals in gambling-related cases.
Previously, in 2024, Porter had petitioned a federal judge for permission to play for a team in Greece, but this request was denied. He is currently awaiting sentencing for his guilty plea, with a potential prison sentence between three to four years anticipated.
