Summary

- He joins an elite group of three mushers to win back-to-back.
- Holmes earned approximately $80,000 for his latest triumph.

Jessie Holmes has once again emerged victorious in the Iditarod, the grueling 1,000-mile sled dog race across Alaska, securing his second consecutive championship. He guided his team to the finish line in Nome on Tuesday night, celebrating with a triumphant pump of his fists.
Holmes' repeat win makes him the third competitor in the Iditarod's 54-year history to achieve consecutive victories, a feat previously accomplished by Susan Butcher and Lance Mackey. He will receive approximately $80,000 in prize money, an increase from last year's earnings, bolstered by support from Norwegian billionaire Kjell Rokke.
This marks Holmes' ninth Iditarod race, having earned seven top-10 finishes and five top-five finishes in his career. The former 'Life Below Zero' reality star has utilized his earnings to improve his dogs and equipment, and to establish a remote homestead near Denali National Park.
Despite the triumph, the race faced criticism from PETA regarding animal welfare, with one dog, Charly, having died during this year's competition. A necropsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death.
