Olympic Runner Jenny Simpson Collapses During Race

American Olympic medallist Jenny Simpson is currently hospitalized following a collapse during a community track event. The incident occurred on Wednesday in Raleigh, North Carolina, while the 39-year-old was pacing a mile group. She required cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and the use of an automated external defibrillator at the scene before being transported to the hospital.

Simpson's team confirmed she is receiving excellent medical care and thanked those who responded quickly and professionally. The decorated runner, who retired from competitive running in 2024, previously won gold in the 1,500 meters at the 2011 world championships and bronze at the 2016 Rio Olympics. She also earned silver medals in 2013 and 2017.
