Sunil Chhetri's Plea: Save Jamshedpur FC!

Jamshedpur FC will be withdrawing from the Indian Super League following the conclusion of the current Durand Cup tournament. The club's operator, Jamshedpur Football and Sporting Private Limited, a Tata Steel-owned entity, confirmed this decision on July 31st. This move signals the end of the first team's operations from the 2026-27 season onwards.

Sunil Chhetri, a prominent figure in Indian football, has publicly urged the Tata Group to reconsider their decision. He emphasized the vital role Jamshedpur FC has played since 2017, describing the withdrawal as a severe setback for the sport. Chhetri highlighted the potential negative impact on players and staff, as well as the broader Indian football ecosystem, calling the absence of Tata's involvement in the top tier a potential disaster.

While acknowledging that business decisions are often made in boardrooms, Chhetri implored the Tata leadership to prioritize the needs of Indian football. He suggested that a decision to keep the club might be considered a poor business choice but is precisely what the sport requires at this critical juncture. Chhetri expressed hope that they would choose their "heart over head" in reconsidering this significant call.
