James Nnaji Joins George Mason After NBA Draft Stint

James Nnaji, a 21-year-old sophomore center, has committed to George Mason University, providing them with three years of college eligibility. Nnaji entered the transfer portal in April, eventually choosing the Patriots after a complex professional and collegiate path. His journey began at 15 in Hungary, leading to a stint with FC Barcelona in Spain. He was then drafted by the Detroit Pistons in 2023 and traded to the Charlotte Hornets, though he has yet to play in an NBA regular season game, with his playing time limited to summer leagues.

Last season, Nnaji joined Baylor University mid-season, a move that sparked controversy due to his age and prior professional experience as a former NBA draftee. His performance for the Bears was underwhelming, averaging just 1.4 points and 2.1 rebounds in 18 games. Consequently, he was not a primary focus for the team's future plans.
