James Franklin Regrets Past Penn State Strategy

James Franklin, recently in charge of Penn State's football program for nearly 12 years, has expressed regret over strategic decisions made during his final season. Now leading Virginia Tech through spring practice, Franklin discussed his experience on a recent podcast. He specifically referenced a deviation from his long-standing '1-0' philosophy, a model that had brought success at both Vanderbilt and Penn State.

Franklin explained that last season, he and his staff attempted more aggressive, big-picture discussions and philosophical tweaks. This approach, he stated, was not the right one in hindsight. He expressed a desire not to repeat the risks associated with that change, emphasizing a return to lessons learned over his 15-year career.

Many members of Franklin's core staff and several former Penn State players have since joined him at Virginia Tech. He highlighted their collective experience across the SEC and Big Ten as a foundation for future success with the Hokies, aiming to implement proven strategies from his past endeavors.
