The inaugural JITO Premier League (JPL), a cricket competition centered around the Jain community, has generated substantial interest, evidenced by its Rs 31 crore auction value. This figure was achieved with participation from twelve teams and more than fifty bidders. The league has transitioned from a charity model to a fully corporate sports property, aiming to host over 40 matches across twelve cities in April-May, with playoffs and finals anticipated in Mumbai.
The JPL has attracted significant player interest, receiving 6,500 applications from individuals within the Jain community. The league is also seeking to engage prominent cricket figures as mentors or icon players, including Jonty Rhodes and Sanath Jayasuriya. The operational structure includes team owners paying 50% of franchise fees initially, with JITO Sports Foundation managing coaching and travel costs. Non-Jain investors can hold up to a 20% stake, and surplus revenue will be shared with teams.
