Isle of Man Athletes Gear Up for Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games

Athletes from the Isle of Man are enthusiastically preparing for the upcoming 2026 Commonwealth Games, set to be held in Glasgow. A contingent of 27 athletes will represent the island across six different sports. This scaled-back event, moved to Scotland after the original host withdrew, has generated significant excitement among the participants. The opening ceremony saw swimmer Laura Kinley, participating in her fourth games, and flag bearer Alfie Bezance leading the Manx squad. Kinley described the atmosphere as "unbelievable" and emphasized the pride in representing the Isle of Man on an international stage. She has completed her final training sessions and is ready to focus on her pool events commencing this Saturday. Para-powerlifter Alfie Bezance, a first-time competitor, expressed his excitement and nerves about carrying the flag. Despite academic pressures, Bezance has maintained rigorous training, now able to concentrate fully on the Games with the team's power bench equipment available on the island. He is scheduled to compete on Friday evening. Chef de Mission Erica Bellhouse conveyed the team's eagerness to raise the Isle of Man flag and expressed satisfaction with the facilities and the overall "Commonwealth mode" atmosphere. She acknowledged the games might feel different due to the host change but affirmed the athletes are "raring to go."
