Iran World Cup Base Swapped to Mexico Amid Security Fears
24 May
Summary
- Iran's World Cup training base moved from US to Mexico.
- Tijuana chosen as new base due to proximity and security.
- Fifa approval for the switch is still pending confirmation.

Iran's national football team is set to relocate its World Cup training base from Tucson, Arizona, to Tijuana, Mexico. This significant change comes as a result of escalating security concerns stemming from the current war in the Middle East.
Mehdi Taj, the president of the Iranian Football Federation, announced that Fifa has approved the request to move the team's accommodations. Tijuana offers strategic advantages, being closer to the Pacific Ocean and on the border with the United States. This new location is expected to reduce travel time for Iran's matches in Los Angeles, significantly shortening flights compared to the original Arizona base.
Iran is scheduled to compete in the World Cup, with matches against New Zealand on June 15, Belgium on June 21, and Egypt on June 26. The team is currently preparing in Antalya, Turkey. The federation had previously presented Fifa with a list of conditions for their participation, including visa requirements for personnel linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
