- US warns some Iranian delegates may be barred due to IRGC ties.

Iran's men's national football team has confirmed its participation in the upcoming 2026 World Cup. The Iranian Football Federation stated its intent to join the tournament, scheduled from June 11 to July 19, but has presented a list of conditions to the host nations: the United States, Mexico, and Canada. These demands focus on ensuring proper treatment and respect for the Iranian delegation.
Key conditions include the guaranteed issuance of visas for all players and staff, particularly those with potential links to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Iran also seeks assurances regarding the display of its national flag and the playing of its national anthem. Furthermore, the federation has requested elevated security protocols at airports, hotels, and venues.
Despite these demands, the United States has reiterated that Iran's footballers are welcome. However, a US State Department official cautioned that members of the Iranian delegation with connections to the IRGC, designated as a terrorist organization by the US, might still be denied entry. FIFA has previously affirmed that Iran's World Cup games will proceed as scheduled in the United States.
