IPL Star Injured: Serious Injury Replacement Rules Ranji Trophy
23 Jan
Summary
- IPL player Prashant Veer injured shoulder, replaced mid-match.
- This is the second time the serious injury replacement rule was used.
- Veer's team, CSK, faces anxiety over his recovery before IPL 2026.

In a significant development during a Ranji Trophy match, Uttar Pradesh's spinner Shivam Sharma was brought in as a serious injury replacement for all-rounder Prashant Veer. Veer, who was the highest-bid uncapped player in the previous IPL auction at Rs 14.2 crore for Chennai Super Kings, suffered a shoulder injury while fielding.
This event signifies the second time the serious injury replacement rule has been invoked in the Ranji Trophy since its introduction. Shivam Sharma has already bowled in the match, claiming a wicket. Veer's expected sidelining for at least three weeks adds to CSK's concerns, as IPL 2026 is slated to commence on March 26.
Previously, Bengal's Kazi Junaid Saifi was the first player to be used under this rule in October 2025. The rule was first applied in the Duleep Trophy when Saurashtra's Harvik Desai was replaced by Maharashtra's Saurabh Nawale. Meanwhile, the Ranji Trophy match itself continues, with Jharkhand holding an advantage.
