The upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction, scheduled for December 16 in Abu Dhabi, has attracted an unprecedented 1,355 player registrations. This massive pool of talent, spanning domestic and international cricketers, signals an intensely competitive bidding environment. Notable Indian names like Mayank Agarwal and Umesh Yadav, alongside international stars such as Cameron Green and Jonny Bairstow, are set to attract significant attention from franchises.
Further diversifying the auction, players from 14 different nations have entered, including unexpected entries from Malaysia and the USA. This global representation highlights the IPL's expanding reach and appeal. Notably, two Indian players, Ravi Bishnoi and Venkatesh Iyer, are among those with the highest base price of Rs 2 crore, while 43 overseas players also start at this bracket.
With the retention deadline passed, the 10 IPL franchises are collectively armed with Rs 237.55 crore to acquire the remaining 77 player slots, including 31 for overseas talent. The Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings lead the spending power, ensuring a strategic and fast-paced auction as teams aim to finalize their squads.
