The Iowa State Cyclones football program has added a significant commitment to its roster with the recent signing of Josh McCarthy. McCarthy, a standout from Farmington High School in Missouri, earned his scholarship offer following an impressive showing at a recent team camp. He had previously been on the program's radar under the former coaching staff.
Plans are already in motion for McCarthy's deployment within the Cyclones' defensive scheme under new coordinator Jesse Bobbit. The coaching staff intends to utilize his skills at linebacker, a move from his previous safety position. They believe his athleticism and coverage ability will translate well to the new role.
McCarthy's junior year statistics demonstrate his considerable talent, featuring 119 total tackles, 33 tackles for loss, and 9.5 sacks. He also contributed in pass coverage with five pass breakups and forced three fumbles, even scoring a defensive touchdown. His versatility extends to the offensive side, where he recorded 17 catches for 507 yards and nine touchdowns last season.
