All-rounder Washington Sundar has been officially ruled out of the upcoming IDFC First Bank T20I series against New Zealand. He sustained a side strain in his lower rib area during the first ODI on January 11. Following medical assessments, Sundar is advised to rest and will undergo further rehabilitation.
Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has been called up to the T20I squad as Sundar's replacement. Bishnoi brings significant T20I experience, having taken 61 wickets in 42 matches. Furthermore, Shreyas Iyer has been added to the squad for the initial three T20Is, with Tilak Varma being replaced due to an abdominal injury.
This reshuffle sees Iyer, who had a stellar IPL 2025 season, join the Indian team. The updated squad features Suryakumar Yadav as captain and includes other key players like Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, preparing for the series against New Zealand.
