Tahsin Mohammed Jamshid, a winger with Kerala origins, is set to become the first Indian passport holder to be part of a FIFA World Cup squad. He has been selected for Qatar's team in the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026, hosted across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. His inclusion marks a significant moment for Indian-origin athletes on the global stage.
Born in Doha to parents from Kerala and Visakhapatnam, Tahsin developed his football skills at the Aspire Football Academy. He represented Qatar at the U-16 and U-17 levels before making his senior debut for Al Duhail in March 2024. This appearance made him the first Indian-origin player in the Qatar Stars League.
Tahsin's eligibility to represent Qatar stems from his Qatari Mission Passport, a special document allowing foreign-born athletes to compete for the nation while retaining their original nationality. He expressed pride in representing Qatar, stating, "For me, Qatar is my own country. I'm a Qatari citizen."
Qatar is scheduled to commence its FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign against Switzerland on June 14 at Levi's Stadium in San Francisco. Tahsin's journey serves as an inspiration for aspiring footballers in India, highlighting the potential for talent and dedication to achieve success across borders.
