Summary

- Rankireddy is experiencing shoulder pain, an old injury possibly from overuse.
- The duo will next compete at the Badminton Asia Championships in April.

The formidable Indian men's doubles duo, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, has been forced to withdraw from the ongoing Swiss Open badminton tournament. This decision came ahead of their scheduled quarter-final match on Friday. The withdrawal is due to a recurring shoulder issue affecting Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, the top seed.
Rankireddy, who holds the Guinness World Record for the fastest badminton smash, has a history of shoulder problems. Malaysian coach Tan Kim Her indicated that the injury is an overuse issue and recovery is estimated to take at least a week. The pair had just endured a grueling 74-minute match in the pre-quarterfinals.
Despite this unfortunate withdrawal, the Asian Games champions have their sights set on future tournaments. They are slated to compete next at the Badminton Asia Championships, which are scheduled to take place from April 7 to 12. The Indian pair secured this title in 2023.
