Cricket rivals India and Pakistan will compete for the Asian Games gold medal on Saturday, having secured their places in the final through semi-final victories.
Pakistan defeated Bangladesh by six wickets in a rain-affected match, while India achieved a dominant 124-run win over Sri Lanka. The highly anticipated final is expected to be played against a backdrop of significant political tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
This rivalry has previously seen traditional sportsmanship, such as handshakes before and after matches, abandoned. Players from both sides have reportedly avoided such gestures, reflecting the ongoing cross-border strains that have impacted sporting interactions.
