Gill to Lead India vs WI; Iyer Captains Japan & Asian Games

Shubman Gill will lead India's squad for the home ODI and T20I series against the West Indies. The experienced duo of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are included. KL Rahul has been appointed vice-captain, replacing Shreyas Iyer.

Shreyas Iyer will captain the Indian team in the one-off T20I against Japan and the Asian Games, which overlap with the ODI series. Nitish Kumar Reddy has been withdrawn from the Asian Games to participate in the ODIs. Naman Dhir and Auqib Nabi have received maiden call-ups. Yashasvi Jaiswal is included as a backup opener.

Several players from the recent England tour, including Ishan Kishan, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, and Arshdeep Singh, are not in the West Indies squad but are part of the Asian Games contingent. Rishabh Pant has been excluded from the ODI squad, with Dhruv Jurel preferred as the second wicketkeeper.

The ODIs will be followed by T20Is, where Iyer returns as captain alongside other T20 regulars. A full squad will be available for the T20Is after players return from the Asian Games. Varun Chakaravarthy has been ruled out of the Japan T20I and Asian Games due to a side strain.
