The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the men's T20 squad for the 2026 Asian Games, set to take place in Japan from September 24 to October 3. Shreyas Iyer will lead the team as captain, with Tilak Varma appointed as vice-captain.
The squad boasts a blend of youth and experience, featuring promising young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. He joins established players like Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma, and Ishan Kishan in the batting lineup. The middle order will be bolstered by Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, and Shivam Dube.
Jasprit Bumrah, who was rested for upcoming T20I tours to manage his workload, has been included in the full-strength squad. This indicates his crucial role in India's plans for the major continental tournament. The bowling attack will also feature spinners Axar Patel, Varun Chakaravarthy, and Ravi Bishnoi, supported by pacers Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana.
A total of 10 teams, including strong contenders like Pakistan and Bangladesh, will compete for the gold medal in the T20 format. The tournament will commence with preliminary qualifying matches before progressing to the quarter-finals, semi-finals, and the medal playoffs on October 3.
