In a significant move to promote the government's Atmanirbhar Bharat vision, the Sports Authority of India's (SAI) National Centre of Sports Science Research (NCSSR) and the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on September 9, 2025, to strengthen cooperation in sports sciences, advanced technology, and indigenous innovation.
This partnership aims to foster inter-institutional coordination and focus on the development of homegrown sports equipment, sports science devices, and cutting-edge technologies. By minimizing dependence on imported tools and embracing domestic solutions, the initiative aligns with the government's 'Garv se Swadeshi' campaign, particularly within the sports sector.
Union Sports Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya emphasized that this collaboration reflects the ministry's commitment to integrating science and technology with sports to empower Indian athletes and ensure they are equipped to compete at the highest international level. The MoU is expected to facilitate high-quality research, promote innovation-driven projects for athlete performance enhancement, enable knowledge sharing, and contribute to injury prevention and athlete well-being.
Coinciding with the MoU signing, the newly-established Biomechanics Laboratory at IIT Delhi was also inaugurated. This state-of-the-art facility will play a vital role in delivering scientific insights into athlete movement, optimizing performance, and mitigating the risk of injuries.
In a separate development, the semifinal stage of the 64th Subroto Cup International Football Tournament, Sub Junior Boys (U-15), saw two thrilling contests on September 9, 2025. Minerva Public School (CISCE) and Vidyachal International School (Bihar) emerged victorious and booked their places in the final, which is scheduled for September 11, 2025, at the Air Force Station in Yelahanka, Bengaluru. Both teams have showcased exceptional skill, energy, and balance, setting the stage for an intense finale to this prestigious tournament.
