Hubbard Eagles: Defense Soars into 2026 Season

The Hubbard Eagles volleyball team is preparing for the 2026 season with a reinforced defense and a clear strategy for continued achievement. Last fall, the Eagles demonstrated their strength in the Northeast 8 Conference, securing 9 league wins and advancing to the district championship game.

The team's primary asset for the upcoming season is its experienced backline, featuring defensive specialist Emma Tetrick, who led the team in digs per set and was a strong server. Layla Songer also returns to bolster the defense, nearing 1,000 career receptions. At the net, seniors Aliyah Elliot, the leading hitter, and Kayla Offie, the top blocker, will anchor the frontline.

A significant challenge for the coaching staff is rebuilding the offense due to the graduation of both varsity setters. Coach Marsha Tetrick acknowledged this as the primary focus for preseason. However, optimism remains high with the development of younger players like sophomore Serena Martinez and the competition from incoming freshmen.

Despite state realignment, the Eagles will continue in Division 4, maintaining their postseason objectives. The coaching staff emphasizes team chemistry and bonding. Hubbard will open its 2026 campaign with two home matches against Canfield and Howland, aiming to start strong with their established defense and emerging offensive talent.
