Hombale Films Eyeing Acquisition of Royal Challengers Bengaluru IPL Franchise

As of November 16th, 2025, the prominent Kannada film production house Hombale Films is understood to be interested in purchasing the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Several big-name investors have been eyeing RCB in the recent past, with the current owner, Diageo India, potentially looking to sell the franchise ahead of the 19th edition of the IPL (IPL 2026).

Hombale Films, the makers of blockbuster hits like K.G.F., Kantara, and Salaar, is said to be exploring this opportunity for a fresh start. While no official confirmation has been made, it is reported that Hombale has held preliminary discussions with Diageo regarding the potential acquisition. Interestingly, Hombale Films has previously worked with RCB, serving as the franchise's official digital partner since April 2023 and creating various cinematic match teasers and engagement campaigns.

RCB, who broke their trophy drought by winning the IPL 2025 title, have seen their valuation skyrocket to around USD 2 billion (approximately INR 17,000 crore). Hombale Films is not the only entity interested in acquiring the franchise, as Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, Adani Group, JSW Group, Serum Institute's Adar Poonawalla, and Devyani International are also reported to be potential buyers.
