In a dramatic start to the Super 8 phase of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry struck with the very first delivery against Sri Lanka.
The opening over saw the dismissal of Sri Lanka's dangerous opener, Pathum Nissanka, for a duck. Henry delivered a precise good-length ball that seamed sharply back, catching Nissanka on the crease.
The ball passed Nissanka's inside edge and shattered his middle stump, giving Sri Lanka an immediate setback. Earlier, New Zealand had set a target of 169 runs, having scored 168/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
