Free-agent pitcher Chris Bassitt has garnered interest from the Cleveland Guardians, according to Bleacher Report. This pairing is considered a surprise given the quiet nature of Bassitt's market this offseason.
Bassitt has been a consistently reliable starting pitcher for seven years, offering a solid source of innings. His career peak included an All-Star selection in 2021.
The Guardians' rotation features promising young arms but could benefit from Bassitt's veteran presence at the No. 5 spot. His Ohio roots, with college experience in Akron, add a compelling local narrative to the potential move.
In the 2025 season, Bassitt posted an 11-9 record for the Toronto Blue Jays. He pitched 170 1/3 innings, striking out 166 batters and maintaining a 3.96 ERA.
