Summary
- Guardians acquire Gold Glove catcher Patrick Bailey from Giants.
- Bailey traded for the No. 29 pick in the 2026 draft.
- Bo Naylor is optioned to Triple-A following the acquisition.
The Cleveland Guardians made a significant roster move on Saturday, acquiring catcher Patrick Bailey from the San Francisco Giants. This trade involved sending the No. 29 pick in the 2026 draft and pitching prospect Matt Wilkinson to the Giants.
Following this acquisition, the Guardians have optioned their primary catcher, Bo Naylor, to Triple-A. Bailey, a two-time Gold Glove winner, has had a difficult offensive season with a .146/.213/.183 slash line.
Naylor, who has been the Guardians' starter, has also struggled offensively, ranking 246th in OPS with a .438. Although he has shown improvement in contact ability and reduced strikeouts, it hasn't translated to offensive output, leading the team to consider a reset for the 26-year-old in the minors.
