Last month, on October 31, 2025, the city of Gorakhpur celebrated the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with an enthusiastic 'Run for Unity' event. The one-and-a-half-kilometer run was organized to spread the message of national unity, following directives issued by the DGP headquarters.
The event began at the Sardar Patel statue near Kali Mandir in Golghar and passed through Ganesh and Kachahari crossings before concluding at the starting point. The rally saw active participation from students, NCC and scout cadets, sports enthusiasts, officials, employees, and locals. Participants carrying the tricolor filled the streets, symbolizing national harmony and brotherhood.
At Ramgarh Tal's Nauka Vihar, DIG Dr S Chanappa, DM Gorakhpur, and SSP jointly flagged off the event. Hundreds of police personnel, students, and residents joined the run. Afterward, officers took a pledge to uphold the nation's unity and integrity. "This run is not just about fitness, it's about the spirit of oneness," said DIG Chanappa.
Similar runs were held across the city, including at Kotwali police station and the Regional Sports Stadium. Medical teams, ambulances, and refreshment counters were stationed along the route, while police ensured smooth traffic and safety. The event turned into a vibrant display of patriotism and collective pride in Gorakhpur.
