The Minnesota Gophers have made a significant change to their defensive coaching staff, dismissing defensive line coach Dennis Dottin-Carter after only one season. This decision comes as the team prepares for the 2025 season with a reshuffled defensive unit.
Dottin-Carter's departure follows his promotion to the defensive line role in February 2025, having initially joined the staff as rush ends coach in January 2025. The Gophers' defense finished the regular season ranked 41st in the nation in total defense, allowing 342 yards per game, and 58th in scoring defense with 23.4 points allowed per contest.
Further adjustments to the defensive staff include the promotion of safeties coach Danny Collins to defensive coordinator and Mariano Sori-Marin's elevation to linebackers coach. Nick Monroe will continue in his role as cornerbacks coach as the team looks to improve its defensive performance in the upcoming season.
