The prestigious Golden Slipper trophy has vanished after being brought to Nova FM's studios for a radio appearance. The award was last observed in the green room during Ricki-Lee Coulter's show on Monday morning. The Australian Turf Club (ATC) has initiated a public appeal, collaborating with Nova FM to retrace the trophy's whereabouts.
ATC interim CEO Steve McMahon stated the trophy holds great significance and that efforts are underway to clarify its movements post-broadcast. The trophy's disappearance occurred as part of the promotional activities for the Autumn Racing Carnival, which commences on March 14. The Golden Slipper race itself will celebrate its 70th anniversary on March 21 and is renowned as one of Australia's premier horse races.
Established in 1957, the Golden Slipper Stakes covers 1200 metres and has a rich history. Legendary trainers like Gai Waterhouse, with seven victories, and T.J. Smith, with six, have achieved significant success in this event. The race also produced a memorable moment in 2000 when John Singleton's horse, Belle du Jour, won the title.
