Real Madrid delivered their finest performance of the season, largely credited to tactical adjustments by coach José Mourinho. Arda Güler's deployment in central midfield proved to be a game-changer, unlocking the team's full potential. This strategic shift resulted in the club's highest possession figure of 65% and a total of 666 passes attempted, surpassing previous season records.
Güler's influence extended to breaking the scoring deadlock with a spectacular goal, which ultimately earned him a standing ovation from the home crowd. The young midfielder completed an impressive 94% of his 64 passes and actively contributed to winning possession five times. Coach Mourinho acknowledged Güler's talent and his own prior hesitation to play him in this crucial role.
Mourinho emphasized that his coaching decisions are based on thorough analysis rather than external pressure. He highlighted the complexity of the central midfield position, noting the distinct qualities required for top-tier players. Güler, despite not being a 'finished product,' has demonstrated his ability to significantly enhance Real Madrid's midfield dynamics.
