Pickens' Future Uncertain Amid Contract Dispute
3 Apr
Summary
- Pickens' future with the Cowboys is uncertain, per Adam Schefter.
- He is unlikely to sign a franchise tender without a long-term deal.
- Steelers traded Pickens away before his career year with Dallas.

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver George Pickens faces an uncertain future with the team, as contract extension talks appear stalled. ESPN senior insider Adam Schefter voiced skepticism about a significant deal materializing soon, noting that as of April 2, 2026, Pickens cannot be in the team facility without signing the franchise tender.
Pickens is reportedly unwilling to sign the tender without a long-term agreement. This stance suggests a real probability that he will not participate in the upcoming offseason program, which typically concludes by mid-July. Schefter described the situation as potentially "tricky" and "challenging" for both the player and the Cowboys organization.
Despite the current impasse, Pickens demonstrated considerable value in his previous season with Dallas, recording 93 receptions for 1,429 yards and nine touchdowns. His production had also been significant earlier in his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he amassed over 2,800 receiving yards in his first three seasons.
The Steelers, who traded Pickens away before his standout year, have since struggled with wide receiver production. They acquired DK Metcalf and Michael Pittman Jr. in attempts to bolster the position, highlighting their previous lack of depth at the receiver spot.
