6 Mar
Summary
- Garrett Crochet finished second in AL Cy Young voting.
- Crochet eclipsed 200 innings, won 18 games, and led MLB.
- ESPN ranks Crochet eighth among MLB's top players.
The Boston Red Sox successfully pivoted to acquire Garrett Crochet before the 2025 season, following missed pursuits of other top free agents. This trade proved highly successful, with Crochet emerging as a dominant left-handed pitcher.
During the 2025 season, Crochet posted an impressive 2.59 ERA across 32 starts. He became one of only three pitchers to surpass 200 innings, secured 18 wins, and led Major League Baseball with 255 strikeouts. His performance earned him second place in the AL Cy Young Award voting and eighth in MVP considerations.
ESPN's recent expert poll ranked Crochet as the eighth-best player in MLB. Analyst Eric Karabell predicts Crochet could surpass Tarik Skubal for the Cy Young Award in the upcoming season. Despite initial health concerns, Crochet's durability and performance have silenced doubters, establishing him as Boston's needed superstar.
