Gambhir's Coaching Stint Under Scrutiny Amid India's Test Struggles
28 Jun
Summary
- India lost 5-wicket to England in 1st Test
- India lost 1-3 to Australia and 0-3 to New Zealand in previous Test series
- Pressure mounting on head coach Gautam Gambhir due to poor Test results

Former India player Aakash Chopra has expressed concerns about the mounting pressure on India's head coach Gautam Gambhir following the team's recent Test series losses. India suffered a 5-wicket defeat to England in the first Test of the ongoing 5-match series in June 2025, continuing their poor run in the longest format.
Prior to this, India lost 1-3 to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2024-25 and were whitewashed 0-3 by New Zealand at home. Chopra pointed out that the Indian Test side has lost the majority of the games during Gambhir's tenure as head coach so far.
While acknowledging Gambhir's success in white-ball cricket, Chopra believes the team's performances in Test cricket have been questionable. With the selectors seemingly providing the team management with the desired players, the results need to be delivered in the ongoing series against England.
