Gambhir's Social Media Break: Rahane's Plea for Focus

Ajinkya Rahane has advised India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, to refrain from using social media until the T20 World Cup concludes. This advice came after Gambhir's interactions on X (formerly Twitter), including a reply to a post by Congress politician Shashi Tharoor. Tharoor had remarked that coaching the Indian cricket team is the second toughest job in the country, a sentiment Gambhir responded to by discussing the "unlimited authority" often assumed for a coach.

Rahane emphasized that Gambhir should disconnect from online discussions and concentrate solely on his responsibilities with the team. He suggested that Gambhir, who previously played cricket admirably, should focus on his current demanding role. This recommendation comes as India is preparing for the T20 World Cup, with the ongoing five-match series against New Zealand serving as a preparatory event. India has already secured a 3-0 lead in this series.

Tharoor's initial post followed a meeting with Gambhir in Nagpur, where he praised the coach's "quiet determination and able leadership." Gambhir's response acknowledged Tharoor's post and alluded to a "truth and logic" regarding a coach's authority that would become clear later, while also expressing amusement at being pitted against his own countrymen. India enters the T20 World Cup as a favored team, having already sealed their series against New Zealand.
